Message from Exec. Headteacher

Thank you for responding to the consultation regarding timings of the school day.  An overwhelming majority of you chose to extend the school hours by finishing on a Friday at 3.30pm.  This will take effect from the week beginning Monday 6th November. This will support the progress of the children educationally and at the same time alligns with parental response.

Message from Head of School

With the first term well underway, it has been lovely walking around the school seeing all the wonderful learning going on in the classes. Our Year 6 Junior Heads and House Captains have now been voted in by the student body. Congratulations to Annabelle and Ahmariyah who have been voted as our Junior Heads and also a big well done to our newly appointed House Captains: Khalid, Mo’Nique, Shaniah, Patrick, Damar, Hunter, Sanya and Ben. I will be asking them to write to you all within our next news update. The Junior heads will be working alongside our Young Governors to help me ensure that our student voice is heard! I have no doubt they will keep me on my toes… This week a greeny, yellow budgie flew into Puffin class.  The children and their teacher, could not believe it.  So far the budgie hasn’t been claimed, so we have got it a cage and some food and as long as no one in Puffin class has any bird allergies, it will stay with them.  The children have named the bird ‘Sherbert’ and here she is – click on her photo to enlarge. It was lovely to see our Year 2s sharing their ‘This is Me’ acrostic poems with the reception children today.  Hopefully we will have some future young writer winners! We are in the process of finalising our club provision for the Autumn term.  Look out for our club letter next week. On Friday 22nd September, Forster Park took part in Jeans for Genes day. Children and staff were invited to wear their jeans for a £1 donation. The donations help children with genetic disorders which effects 1 in 25 children, that’s 1 child in every class. By donating we are hoping to change the lives of these children. We managed to raise a total of £150.86, thanks to everyone that took part! We received a wonderful email today from a member of the community who said: ‘I would just like to say how nice it was share my journey into London with the children from your school. I don’t normally travel into Central London but was visiting a friend. It made my heart melt seeing how excited the children were to spot some of the London landmarks out of the window and to hear them talking about their trip. I hope they enjoyed the rest of their day as much as they did on the train.’   Well done to everyone in Years 3 and 4 fro your fantastic behaviour during your trip to The British Museum.

Achievements

Our Inclusion officer Sophie Hodson recently researched her family tree.  She found out that she is related to the Earl of Cromartie.  Here she is with her sister holding up their family tree while visiting Cromarie in the Black Isles, Scotland.

The children in after school club were extremely proud of their lego farm they made this week, click on the photo to enlarge.

Congratulations to Lissa-Rose in Eagle class for a fantastic performance of Beauty and the Beast with the Montage Theatre Arts group at The Albany theatre in Deptford. Lissa-Rose has been attending Montage since she was 5 and says it’s a great place to go to make friends and is especially good over the holidays. She’s already looking forward to the half-term show of The Little Mermaid, even though she says performing still gives her butterflies! If you’re interested, check out www.montagetheatre.com for more info.

School Dinners

Our new catering company is settling in now and we have a new chef starting next week.  Our new chef is called Charlotte and we welcome her to Forster Park School.  Here are some pictures of the food the children had this week:

Mr Nourish’s Birthday

Mr Nourish is celebrating his birthday on Thursday 5th October.  We have a special birthday dinner planned for all the children, CLICK HERE to read the menu and remember you won’t need to bring your packed lunches on this day.  The kitchen staff are also running a competition.  ‘Design a birthday card for Mr Nourish’ and hand it in to the catering team – prizes will be awarded on his birthday.  Good luck everyone!

New Sensory Room

We are pleased to share that we now have a Sensory Room that serves the pupils at Forster Park School.  This enchanting space has a bubble tube, moving projected images and other sensory delights for pupils to enjoy.  Sensory play helps children to develop their senses, encourages problem-solving and can build nerve connections in the brain. This is a great benefit of a sensory room as it engages different areas of the brain, helping children absorb and retain more information.  In addition, sensory rooms have emerged as invaluable therapeutic environments for children dealing with anxiety and stress. By providing a safe and calming space filled with sensory experiences, these rooms offer a range of benefits such as relaxation, self-regulation, and empowerment.  The sensory room will be another fantastic addition to the schools already great facilities and will benefit all.

Reminder

Just to remind parents and carers, that we use the Waters Road entrance at the beginning and end of the school day.

Lost Property

Please remember to label your children’s clothes, we can then easily return them to you.  All un-labelled items will be on display outside the After School Club building regularly.  Lost property will next be on display on: Friday 6th October 2023.  Unclaimed items will be washed and recycled.
