The Oakbridge Federation has a duty to ensure compliance with relevant Health & Safety legislation with regard to the provision of first aid for all employees, pupils, visitors and persons affected by our activities.
All first aid provision is arranged and managed in accordance with the DfE “Guidance on First aid in schools, early years and colleges”
Roles and Responsibilities
Responsibility for the provision of First Aid in our schools is held by The Heads of School.
- This responsibility has been delegated to the lead first aider on site.
The above person will be responsible for the management of first aid on a day to day basis. (Duties will include ensuring there are sufficient numbers of staff trained at appropriate levels (full first aid at work, paediatric and emergency first aid) and the provision and stocking of first aid kits.
Aims and Objectives
- Carry out a first aid risk assessment to determine the first aid provision requirements.
- Review the assessment periodically or sooner if there have been any significant changes or incidents that may affect the provision.
- Ensure there are suitable numbers of first aid trained staff on duty during the whole school day including extended services. This will include the need for paediatric first aid.
- Existing first aiders receive refresher training within the legal timescales.
- First aid provision will always be considered for each school trip or offsite activity
- Ensure there are suitable and sufficient facilities and equipment available to administer first aid in accordance with our first aid risk assessment.
- Ensure all staff and parents are aware of the schools first aid arrangements and accident reporting procedures.
- A paediatric first aider will be available on the school’s sites, including extended services for pupils under the age of 6.
