Parent Carer of: Melo Wade RLT
As a parent of two very different children, I have seen firsthand how important it is for learning environments to be flexible and responsive to individual needs. I feel strongly that there is no one size fits all approach to education. And as a parent, I care deeply about creating positive opportunities for my children to learn, grow, and feel supported. Every child learns differently, comes from a different background, and has their own strengths and challenges. Because of this, I think it is important that those involved in school decision-making bring a range of experiences, ideas, and perspectives to the table. Fresh thinking and open discussion can help ensure that all children are given the opportunity to succeed in a way that works for them.
As an individual, I am someone who loves reading and exploring the great outdoors, bringing people together along the way to create a sense of community.I would welcome the opportunity to support the continued growth and success of the school, not only for my own son but for all children and families within the federation.
I believe that parent involvement plays a huge role in a child’s learning and development. When parents and schools work together, children benefit from a stronger support network and are more likely to feel confident, understood, and able to thrive.
One area I am particularly passionate about is communication between the school and parents. Clear, consistent communication is vital for supporting children’s learning and wellbeing. When communication is lacking, it can create confusion and frustration, particularly for families of children like mine with additional needs. Having a child with SEN often requires timely information and a clear understanding of what support is in place. I would like to help strengthen the relationship between school and home so that families feel informed, included, and able to work in partnership with staff.
Over the last 11 years, I have worked in the property industry and, for the past four years, as a birth and postnatal doula. Through both roles, I have supported families from a wide variety of backgrounds, listened to their needs, and helped them navigate challenges. I have also assisted in running our family children’s nurseries, gaining valuable insight into child development and the importance of creating supportive, inclusive environments where children can flourish.
I have a good understanding of safeguarding through my own experiences and through my mother’s role as a Designated Safeguarding Lead at a local SEMH school. This has given me a real appreciation of the importance of ensuring children’s wellbeing remains at the heart of every decision.
I would also love to help strengthen the school community through fundraising and social events that bring parents, staff, and children together. Building these connections helps create a welcoming and supportive environment where families feel engaged and involved in school life.
